Counseling &

Thank you for taking time to learn a little more about me and the clinical services that I provide.

I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, located in the DeKalb/Sycamore Community.  I work in a private practice office, and I have over 20 years of professional experience in providing direct therapy services to adolescents and adults.

I earned my Master's degree in Community Counseling from Loyola University Chicago, following my BA degree in Psychology from Eastern Illinois University.  During my education, I recognized my strong desire to assist others in learning how to enhance and improve the navigation of their lives and relationships.

Prior to my work in private practice, I worked at a community agency for over 15 years.  I served as a Director and Clinical Supervisor, striving to improve local specialized programming for all clients and their families, while enhancing professional and clinical competency for clinical staff.

I am passionate about my work as a therapist.  Due to my vast professional experiences in the mental health field, I am comfortable and competent in working with most mental health issues, challenges or concerns.  I use different clinical approaches based upon the client's needs, with particular focus on elements of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, Family Systems Therapy, and Pragmatic and Experiential Couples Therapy (PET-C).

I truly value and enjoy working with each client.  It is an honor to witness clients as they discover and challenge themselves to obtain their best life and relationships.

More Information about my work in my practice:

I work with clients age 11 and up.  My work with children & adolescents includes individual and family therapy.  I also provide parenting solutions and assistance to parents who are experiencing challenging circumstances with their teens.  Together we work to improve the emotional and behavioral components of the client and enhance the family system to function in a more healthy way.

My work with adults is collaborative in nature, in individual, couples or family work.  I encourage and assist my clients to improve their self awareness, and to recognize their inner experiences, as well as their emotional, cognitive and behavioral challenges.  Together we identify goals and work towards improved emotional regulation & daily functioning.

General Mental Health Issues and Concerns:

I have a great deal of experience in working with general mental health issues, such as Depressive Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, including Generalized Anxiety, Social Anxiety (Phobia), Panic Disorder, Obsessive-Compulsive and Related Disorders, Trauma and Stress Related Disorders, Self Esteem challenges, and Life transitions- including personal, relational, educational & career transitions.

As needed or requested, I will collaborate with Primary Care Physicians or Psychiatrists to ensure the most effective treatment approach for clients who choose combined treatment.  If a client is needing a higher level of care, I will assist in the referral process to Intensive Outpatient Programs or Inpatient Programs, depending on need.   It is best practice that all treatment providers are collaborative and are working as a team, to ensure progress and improvements.

Treatment Approaches:

The therapeutic treatment that I provide is informed by evidenced-based treatments.  I use a combination of psychological models and approaches including:  Acceptance and Commitment Therapy;  Motivational Interviewing, skills from Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, Family Systems Therapy, Pragmatic and Experiential Couples Therapy, and the strategies from the Gottman Method Couples Therapy.
